With Mother's Day coming up, we thought we would jazz up a typical flower pot for Mom.

We went to the little fabric store around the corner from our apartment and found these vintage looking prints for only a dollar a yard!  Holla! 

All you need are flower pots and any cute fabric.  Duh.

A paint brush and Mod Podge (matte finish). 

Oh and scissors! 

• Cut a piece of fabric that will fit around the pot with extra room to fold over the top and the bottom.   
• With a paint bush, coat a little bit of the pot with Mod Podge.  
• Stick on your fabric and once in place, coat the fabric with Mod Podge.  
• Continue doing this all the way around your pot, but don't worry about the top or bottom yet.  
• When the outside of your pot is finished, trim the fabric so that theres about an inch left on the top and bottom.
• Cut slits in the fabric around the top and bottom inch, this will avoid any puckering.
• Beginning at the top fold down the slits of fabric into the pot and coat with Mod Podge, trying to leave a smooth and flat finsih around the top of the pot.  
• Do the same for the bottom and coat any loose flaps with Mod Podge.

Mom's gonna love this.

It's best to keep your pots indoors, it'll last longer!

Mother's Day is around the corner...
Don't buy flowers this year, make them!

We think these are so cute and will brighten up anyone's day.

Cut 2" hearts out of felt for the petals of your flower.
Pinch the bottom tip of the heart around the end of your stick and hot glue.
Glue 3-5 heart petals on each stick, they all should different. 
Once your petals are in place, wrap the bottom of your flower pedals with floral tape.
Glue on some leaves to complete your flower.

Easy. Breezey. Beautiful. Cover-jar.

Pour a small amount of paint into a jar and rotate to evenly coat the inside.

Turn your jar upside down on wax paper and let paint drip out.
Once the excess paint is out, turn it right side up and let it dry!

Having water in your jar will ruin the paint job!
If you decide to use real flowers, be sure to sneak in a cup with water.

We think they look like Dogwood flowers.

Lemon-ly Deliciousness.

Set it and forget it.
This is the perfect recipe for a no fuss dessert!

Slow Cooker Lemon Spoon Cake

5-6 lemons
1 box yellow cake mix
3 eggs
1 stick of melted butter
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup lemon juice (plus 2 tablespoons for glaze)
1 1/2 tablespoon lemon zest
Glaze
2 tablespoons lemon juice from above
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 cup powdered sugar

In a large bowl, mix cake mix, lemon juice, water, eggs, melted butter and lemon zest with a spoon.  

Be careful of over mixing, it's okay if it's a little lumpy!

Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray.
Pour batter into slow cooker and smooth down evenly.
Cook on high 1 1/2 hours or until center of the cake is firm.  
Mix glaze ingredients in a small bowl with spoon.

Before serving pour glaze over cake and serve with vanilla ice cream!

Smells of the Season.

Do you smell that?
Smells like warm weather.

Making a stove top potpourri mix is a quick inexpensive way to make your home smell delicious!

Throw sliced lemon, rosemary and a teaspoon or 2 of vanilla extract in a saucepan and fill with water.

Place on a low setting burner and enjoy!

Don't let the water completely evaporate, keep refilling.

One mix will stay good for a week or so.

This will also make a perfect homemade gift.

Have fun with the packaging and don't forget to include the instructions! 

I think I CAN, I think I CAN!

When we first moved into our apartment, we were very sad to hear that our building "didn't really recycle".  Since then we have been doing our best to figure out what to do with all our empty jars, cans, bottles and magazines.
We love to upcycle.  It's great for the environment and encourages creativity!

Soda can tea light holders.

• With a pair of scissors cut off the top of your can.  Be as neat as you can, but it doesn't have to be perfect.  
• Cut evenly spaced strips all around the can.  Again, it does not have to be perfect.
• Now, pull each strip down and flatten to make it look like a sun.  
• Fold one strip over the strip to the left and continue to fold underneath the strip on the left, basically over and under...confusing to say, but use the pictures as your guide.
• Continue folding and tucking your way all around the can!  
• And as always, always be careful when handling scissors and the can! Duh.

For something even quicker, try these!

• All you need for this project is an empty soda can, scissors, glue and any old magazine or paper with some cool graphics or pictures.
• Cut the top of your can to your desired height of your tea light holder.  
• Cut the image the same height as your can.  
• Glue your paper onto the can!  Easy, huh?!? 

Place the candle in the can or turn it upside down and use it as a stand.

Our locks in our apartment are so confusing.

These arrows help us lock up quick and save us from struggling at the door! 

We used pencil because it can be easily removed with a Magic Eraser.
