Rag Flag!

Does anyone else have a bin of scraps? We do!  

We keep all these pieces of fabric that we never use! 

So we got to work and made a flag!

Patriotic Napkin Candles!

We had some all-American napkins left over from a BBQ and we couldn't let them go to waste!

Using Mod Podge we carefully covered candles with our adorable napkins!

Patriotic Pallets!

We love our pallet coasters we made a few years ago.
This year we gave them a makeover for the Fourth!

We knew we wanted a worn vintage look, so we sloppily painted our pallets red, white and blue.  
Then added small streaks of watered down black paint on each plank.

Once they were dry, we sanded our pallets until we got the rustic look we wanted!

Keep your eye on the grand old flag...pallets!

It's starting to get patriotic up in here! 

Not only are we celebrating the 4th...we're also celebrating Christmas in July!

Patriotic Rice Jars!
Decorative Pinwheels!

You're the bomb!

Remember Bomb Pops!?
We used to get them from the ice cream truck every summer!

It's a simple and fun project!

Cut out your Bomb Pop.
Fill up two separate containers with water and generous amounts of food coloring. 
Dip and dry!

We framed ours!

We're adding a little "pop" to our Fourth of July decorating this year!

We made these comic book pop art inspired explosion signs with paper we found at Michaels!

We love the added yellow to our red, white and blue!

We're not exactly sure what to do with them...but think they look dynamite!

Sugar high as a flag on the Fourth of July.

Enjoy this simple summery delicious pie!

What you need:

4 eggs

1 cup sugar
1 tbsp flour
1/4 cup of butter, melted (half a stick)
1 cup buttermilk
2 tsps lemon zest (two lemons)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 unbaked 9 inch pie crust
1 cup cold, heavy whipping cream
Fresh berries!

Preheat oven to 325.  In a bowl, beat the eggs, add in sugar and lemon zest.  
Once combined, beat in flour and melted butter.  
Beat in the vanilla and buttermilk.

Pour the filling into your uncooked pie shell.
Bake for about 50 min, or until the center of the custard has set...it can still be wiggly.

Let cool and expect the custard to deflate a bit.

whip the chilled cream until it holds a stiff peak.
There's no need to add sugar to the whipped cream, trust us the pie is sweet enough!

Add the whipped cream to the cooled pie and pile on the berries!

Catch a falling star garland.

Making sure we're getting good use out of our star puncher!

Hot glue 2 stars together with floral wire in between for a fun and festive touch for your 4th of July celebration!

Every heart beats true to the red white and blue!

Dying rice is so easy and super fun!
You can dye rice for any ocasion making a varitety of colors.  This year it's red, white and blue for July 4! 

To dye rice all you need is food coloring, vinegar, ziplock baggies, tray or shallow dish, paper towels...and rice!  

• Divide rice into 3 equal parts. Place 2 of the parts into separate ziplock baggies (one for red, the other for blue).  The third part you'll leave white.
• Add 2 teaspoons of vinegar or rubbing alcohol to each bag...we even heard you could use hand sanitizer!
• Add food coloring to each bag.  We used about 15 drops!

• Zip lock your baggies and mix the color around by smushing the bag and spreading out the color evenly.  You might need to add a few more drops of food coloring and vinegar until you get the color or brightness you want.
• Set some paper towels on a tray or plate.  Once your rice is mixed, open each bag and spread it out on the tray to let dry.  It doesn't take long at all!

Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around.

Well...these decorative pinwheels don't actually spin...but they look so so cute and are easy to make!

• Cut a squares out of double sided patriotic paper.  (We didn't have any but gluing the pieces of paper back to back worked just as well.)  We cut 5x5 and 6x6 squares.
• Fold your square corner to corner then unfold.
• On each fold create a pencil mark about 1/3 of the way from the center.
• Cut along the folded lines, stopping at the pencil mark.  Don't cut all the way into the center.
• Bring together every other point into the center and hot glue.

• Make a center piece for your pinwheel.  We used stuff laying around the apartment...burlap, buttons, paper, even some pennies!
• Hot glue your pinwheel onto a stick.  You could use anything...a pencil, chopsticks, a dowel, an actual stick, we used straws!
